Aarti’s passion for her work in the Culture and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) space

has led her to writing two books in this space. Both books have been published by HarperCollins.

Her first book How India Works: Making Sense of a Complex Corporate Culture was published in 2018. The book is a guide to the cultural nuances and complexities of working with Indians.

In this book, Aarti draws on her experience as an intercultural coach to flesh out the cultural nuances that impact how Indians work. How India Works has a balance of insights and humorous anecdotes providing an awareness of what works and what doesn’t in the Indian context. It is relevant for foreigners working with Indians as well as for Indians to understand how they are perceived by others and how they can leverage their strengths and work around the gaps.

Her second book titled How Women Work: Fitting in and Standing Out in Asia was published in 2023. Although there is much literature on how women should lead and lean in, it is largely prevalent through a Western lens. How Women Work provides a perspective of leadership, gender and culture in Asia through an Asian lens.

The book contains insights and anecdotes of over 50 leaders across India, China, Singapore, Japan, Thailand and the Philippines. How Women Work sensitises readers to the complexity of the cultural aspects that women managers and leaders navigate. Above all, it showcases and celebrates what women do well to succeed in Asia.
